Meta Knight is a character in the Kirby series, the second of Kirby's rivals, and one of the three most recurring characters alongside Kirby and King Dedede. Despite his small stature, he is a stoic and mysterious swordsman who protects the land and follows a code of honour, frequently challenging Kirby to test his abilities and almost always providing Kirby a sword to do so with (except in dire or unusual circumstances). He wields a golden spiked sword called Galaxia, and wears a cape capable of transforming into bat wings and an iconic mask that frequently breaks when he is defeated, revealing a face very similar to Kirby's and provoking a hasty retreat. Meta Knight also commands the Battleship Halberd bearing his mask and wings.

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, though he claims allegiance to King Dedede, he typically acts as a behind-the-scenes mentor and protector to Kirby, helping him fight against Dedede's monsters and providing exposition and knowledge of Kirby's copy abilities. He is also a veteran Star Warrior and one of the few survivors of the war against eNeMeE.

Meta Knight is playable in the Super Smash Bros. games, starting with Brawl. In Brawl specifically, he is infamous for being far and away the best character in the game on a competitive level thanks to his unrivalled air movement and fast yet powerful attacks.
