wind chime
A decorative object suspended in midair that makes noise when blown by the wind.
Wind chimes have three basic forms:
- A cluster of small pieces of metal, glass, pottery, bamboo, seashell, or wood that collide with each other and make noise when blown by the wind.
- A cluster of tubes or rods, often made of metal or wood, that are rung by a central clapper, to which is attached a flat plate to catch the wind.
- Furin: a single bell or open-ended glass globe whose clapper is attached to a flat piece of paper to catch the wind.
