White Java sparrow (P. oryzivora)
white java sparrow
A domesticated color mutation of the wild Java sparrow.
While gray Java sparrows have been kept in Japan as pets since the Edo period, the breeding of this snow-white mutation only gained significant traction near the end of that era. It was selectively refined over the following century into a beloved, heavily domesticated companion bird.
