straitjacket
A jacket worn to restrain or prevent movement of the arms. Distinguished by its very long sleeves with no openings for the hands, designed to attach itself to the jacket body by buckles or buttons, making the wearer hug themselves.
Alternatively, the wearer may have their hands placed behind their back in a reverse straitjacket.
Famously worn by the magician Harry Houdini in some of his escape tricks. Also commonly associated with mental hospitals and insane asylums around the turn of the 20th century, when they were commonly used to restrain violent patients. Nowadays used within BDSM communities for bondage.
