silver week
An informal Japanese long weekend in September during certain years formed by a regular weekend followed by two formal holidays falling on a Monday and a Wednesday and a "citizens' holiday" (kokumin no kyuujitsu) in between on a Tuesday. Those two formal holidays are:
- Respect for the Aged Day, the third Monday of September
- Autumnal Equinox Day, usually September 23, but actually astronomically determined.
Unlike Golden Week which happens annually due to fixed-date holidays, Silver Week occurs less often due to the above holidays being movable. The term first became popular in 2009 and Silver Week has been celebrated twice since, in 2015 and 2026.
In the same rein as in Golden Week, there is a trend of artists drawing girls in silver bikinis leading up to and during Silver Week, especially in 2026.
