A graphic design trend of the 1980s and 1990s, pioneered by the design and architecture group Memphis Milano / the Memphis Group. It often features grid backgrounds with brightly colored swirls, confetti and streamer-like shapes, and bold geometric shapes.
Most commonly associated with malls and arcades. Architectural design often features pillars, checkered tile, linoleum floors, and neon signs.
