There are two systems for writing Chinese, Simplified and Traditional. Both systems use different characters for the same words. For example, in Simplified Chinese, horse is written "马", while in Traditional Chinese it is written "馬". Simplified Chinese is the most common writing system, being used in mainland China, Singapore, and Malaysia, while Traditional Chinese is used in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
The official system for romanizing Chinese is known as Pinyin.
Seal script is an archaic style of writing Chinese characters that was used in ancient China.
