chaperon hat
A medieval Western European hood that later developed into a versatile type of men's headwear. It was originally worn as a hood with a long decorative tail (liripipe), but later evolved into a complex hat-like form with the face opening used as an opening for the head.
Not to be confused with landsknecht hat.
