buckler

A small round shield, typically 20–40 cm (8–16 inches) in diameter, usually made of metal.

Typically used for parrying and displacing slashes and thrusts from swords, polearms and blunt weapons. It is frequently depicted as being strapped to the forearm as an arm shield rather than being held.
