boater hat

A stiff hat with a flat top and flat brim, and a ribbon around the crown, usually made of straw. They were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Not to be confused with a straw sun hat, which is not as stiff or flat-topped, or a porkpie hat, which has a slightly curved brim.
