Although typically described as undead, a vampire could be a living person. Popularized in Europe in the 18th century and codified in literature in the 19th century as a Western folkloric being distinct from its Slavic(-Turkic) roots. Half-vampires are often called 'dhampir' in English, which means vampire in Albanian.
Common beliefs about vampires include that they are immortal, that they can only be killed by being exposed to the sun or by a wooden stake driven through their heart, that they sleepin coffins, have no reflections and cast no shadows, are afraid of crosses and garlic, are able to hypnotize victims, are able to transform into creatures of the night like bats or wolves, have a compulsion for counting things, can walk on walls and ceilings and that they are unable to cross flowing water and enter homes without being invited in.
This tag should not be used unless vampiric traits are clearly visible in the image. See vampire costume for when a character is simply dressed as a vampire.
