The Mk 22 pistol is a militarized version of the Smith & Wesson Model 39 adopted by the United States Navy for limited use by Naval Special Warfare (NAVSPECWARCOM) personnel during the Vietnam War. It is best known in more recent popular culture in the form of the Mk 22 Mod 0 "Hush Puppy", a suppressed version with a slide lock, thanks to its appearance as one of Solid Snake's signature weapons in the Metal Gear Solid series of games. (Note that unlike Snake's in-game Hush Puppy, the real one is decidedly not a less-lethal weapon. It's a normal suppressed pistol firing conventional subsonic 9×19mm Parabellum ammunition.)
