A series of bolt action rifles that was initially designed and manufactured as the final and definitive weapon of the Mauser rifle lineage, the rifle utilized cock-on-open action to chamber the 7.92×57mm cartridge and a 5-round internal magazine. The Mauser 98 is recognizable by its two handguard metal bands on the front (one serves for sling swivels), ability to store a cleaning rod inside the lower handguard, exposed barrel, and semi-grip buttstock.
