A type of garment made from interlocked loops of yarn that create a flexible, warm fabric. While the term “sweater” refers generally to a knitted or crocheted upper-body garment, in common usage, a “knit sweater” usually highlights the specific construction method—knitting, where yarn is worked together in rows of loops.

Knit sweaters can feature a variety of patterns such as cable knits, ribbing, Aran designs, Fair Isle colorwork, and more. They also come in many silhouettes—crew neck, V-neck, cardigan, and turtleneck, among others.
