Dried grass or other plants, such as clover or alfalfa, cut and dried for animal feed. After being harvested hay is stored in hay bales or loosely piled in haystacks. Often seen on farms around livestock or in the middle of fields.
The difference between hay and straw is that straw is a by-product from harvesting crops and has little to no nutritional value.
