A member of the Cuculidae family. It is a dove-sized bird with bluish-grey or tawny head, throat and upper back. Most species also have a barred white underbelly.

Cuckoos have played a role in human culture for thousands of years. In Japan, the cuckoo symbolizes unrequited love.
