Markings on the skin that are unnatural (not moles, freckles, birthmarks, etc.), and are either a natural trait of the character (possibly shared by others of their clan, race or species), or of an ambiguous nature. It may be unclear whether the markings are tattoos, makeup, bodypaint, tanlines, or something else.

Compared to bodypaint, body markings are usually more permanent in nature, not being worn temporarily.
