The witch makes a great point. They're worshipping something which undeniably exists, instead of going "nuh-uh, my gods totally exist, the priest told me so". That aside the hypocrisy of a Roman calling someone else a savage will never not amuse me.

Not trying to be that guy, but there's no proof that the Picts worshipped trees at all. It was much more likely that the trees were sacred to a Pictish god in their metaphysics. There's also no proof that the Picts had druidic practices at all, that was just sort of the assumption because the Gauls tended to have that practice. Also, the Romans assumed everyones gods were real. Like they literally collected them like the general Grievous lightsaber meme. The assumption was that if the tribes got this far, then their gods must be real. Interpretatio Romana was basically “ah, a fine addition to my collection.” and made integration pretty frictionless. The main thing the Romans were angry at with the Picts was that their priests had a power structure the Romans couldn't control.
