    Just pointing out i’ll ignore any discussion about this; i’m tired of the mental gymnastics for what it is a very clear and cut case, and this was a commission anyways.

    The only one coping is you, the rest of us actually trust the word of the man who created the character and has been the writer for her story over our personal fetishes. Keep living in denial, bud, I'm sure in her next appearance she'll thank you personally.

    He also has several forum posts in the thread on how to tag Bridget after the Strive reveal. Bridget is essentially the only thing he's ever done with this account.

    I'm going to need proof that the Japanese version confirms your version of the story, because from what I saw, only translations in other languages (English included) have the "Actually, I'm a girl" line.

    Nah, I already linked several things about this, including an official JAPANESE statement made by Daisuke himself about Bridget identifying as a woman, which you can find on the official GG website. I'm not playing this game anymore. Ya'll don't listen no matter what's presented to you, unless it's an obvious bad edit from 4chan, apparently.

    I don't really understand what point you're trying to argue here. I can think of a lot of angles on the idiotic bridget controversy and "commerce" most definitely is not on the list.

    I already did, but I was asking about your point, not the artist's commentary, which I already read. Also, if you don't want people to "assume" things, why redirect them around like this, instead of just explaining your thoughts?
    I also get the creeping suspicion you'd feel differently if somebody was taking, or getting commissions that are equally obnoxious but advocated your own beliefs.

    If this was a popularity contest, then why bother citing the writer's statement? (which is taken out of context.) If the author's intent is what matters, why make it about upvotes on the internet? Because it's not about logic. Bridget HAS to be trans, and people are just taking whatever excuses they can get to force that to be the case. And you know what, that's fine. But that also means it's fine to talk about what the "femboy supporters" want.

    Bridget as a character appealed to many people. The "femboy supporters" liked him because in their interpretation, he wasn't necessarily trans, but didn't fit into traditional gender stereotypes. These players felt represented by the character, because they also didn't fit into traditional gender stereotypes- they were feminine men, tomboys, gay people etc.

    It's fine to talk about why you like the character, what the artist was feeling when they wrote them etc. But it's also fine to point out who that character, maybe unintentionally, appeals to. It is not fine to go around harassing and bullying established fans because the writer doesn't understand the appeal of his own work.
    I feel very sorry for Bridget's old fanbase. They lose their representation and get harassed. If they don't argue, they disappear, and people claim they never really existed in the first place. If they do fight, they get called "bigoted."

    It is pretty overwhelming that it isn't just a translation taking liberties. There's a quote from another source with Daisuke Ishiwatari saying, "After the events of Bridget's story in Arcade Mode, she self-identifies as a woman. So, as to whether 'he' or 'she' would be the correct pronoun for Bridget, the answer would be 'she,'"

    Also, I didn't realize until the article that its been a decade since Bridget last appeared in a game.

    It's not a translation taking liberties at all, as far as I can tell. But that's still besides the point. These interpretations have been around for ages, and they're reasonable. The writer doesn't seem to have understood the appeal of his character- which isn't surprising, cultural differences and all that, but it's still unfortunate.

    Plus his story was far greater as trans rep than what is depicted in Strive... He was AFAB, raised female, became a bounty hunter to bring wealth to break the superstition of same sex twins, hated being seen as a girl, only used his femininity to lure targets into a false sense of security, wanted "to return to the village as a boy" (ウチが男の子として村に帰るために), and even said "cute is unnecessary... I'm a man" (かわいいは余計です… ウチは男です). Now it is just "I should give up all my accomplishments to be seen as the gender I want and be the gender the world sees me as and what my society wants me to be, a girl"

    Daisuke should have just made a new trans character or make Bridget's twin brother come out as trans. Its clear the ideologues here and on the rest of the web are narcissists who don't like sharing... They gloat when characters are changed for them like Buri here, push their headcanons as canon like with Gwen Stacy who they are now calling trans, and they cry and scream when a character they decide is trans isn't such as Yamato from One Piece or Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4
