More specifically, she's suffering a mental break. The shock stemming from what happened with Roon hit her hard, and then some of the girls then exacerbated it to the point she is now entirely broken.

Hard to feel sympathy for an undeveloped character.

This series relies less on logic and more on "Let's make these girls look scary/crazy and Let Them Fight". In other words, if you think too hard, you lose!

(FFS, Akagi was sunk by an attack she herself launched).

I just think it's funny how the commenters are criticizing the commanders' supposed lack of strength in past pages when the fact is that 100% of players of AL (or KC or whatever) are not and will not command a fleet, ever, at all. Being a commander is hard work and it's not just sitting in a pretty office signing papers while your waifu brings you coffee and I'd say that the prevalence of "admiral/commander doing paperwork" scenes so many fanworks is due to the fact few among the fanbase even know what the fuck Real Life commanders do nowadays (not to mention that having a family is mandatory to reach the higher ranks in certain navies of the world so no harem fantasies irl either!). Have some self-awareness!

So the author is in fact pointing out at the playerbase which would really do no better than any highschooler thrown in the middle of war, no matter how many WW2 shows you've watched. First of all, you can't apply real life logic or real life experiences onto these world because these characters break all rules of logic: these weapons who are human should be treated as soldiers; but possessing a force that surpasses a thousand soldiers breaks down tradional notions of hierarchy and a different, horizontal approach becomes necessary. It's the ships' humanity what becomes their greatest strength and their greatest weakness, and the story has shown us how they can be capable of showing extreme kindness or extreme cruelty, but no middle point.

Without hindsight, there was really nothing the commander could have done to avoid this outcome because armor can protect your boats but no plating can protect their hearts and brains from the horrors of war. But rather than their minds, it's their condition as weapons what makes them suffer such heightened trauma and I'd argue that having feelings for the commander was what kept them from reaching the breaking point, instead of the opposite. Of course the story is not over and there's more revelations to come.

and yea I know the author is just really edgy lol

Listen...! and understand! Have. Some. GOD. DAMN. Self. Awareness! (Also yamagumo literally showed up just to say some big think about the setting and then disappeared but this is forcing me to constantly think about this series while playing Azur Lane, and how is the last sentence supposed to make anything any better like "oh it's just the author being really edgy don't worry about it")

Nothing's saying I have to agree, though. Some actions in this series simply don't make sense if you think about them. Again, Akagi sank herself. Why? She fired a massive strike at Yorktown... and then deliberately took the strike herself. While she was trying to subdue Yorktown. Yeah. Many of the ships have... let's call it "unique" interpretations. Whether they make sense or not, things happen to progress the plot, which is, by and large, Death Battles between the girls. Hence "If you think, you loose". This is not a deep story. It's a fun... well, Yan battle fanfic. The author likes drawing the girls like that. IIRC, they've done large spreads of each faction drawn in that style.

Yeah, this admiral had no business leading a fleet, but that is neither here nor there. The reason she is characterized as having no business leading a fleet is because that characterization allows all this to happen in the first place. If the base had a halfway competent admiral, this would have ended at the Roon-Akagi incident. Probably before Akagi got involved at all. Which means that this story would not have been able to happen. A well-meaning, incompetent, and ultimately mentally broken admiral is exactly what this story called for. So, that's what she is.

Not every story has to have a deep message. Sometimes the story is simply "drama, epic fights and shit blowing up".

This. I understand people arguing the logic of this series, suspension of disbelief can only go so far. But to think that somehow this story has some deep, meta meaning ,I think that's really reaching.

Added in translations for the last four pages.

Personally, I feel like if Parka didn't have something they wanted to say - maybe not about the game as a whole, but about the characters, at least - they wouldn't have made a 60-page comic and just stuck to drawing botes with glowy eyes. Whether you agree with what they're saying is one thing, but there IS something being said.

Not really, plenty of art has been done just for the fun of it rather than trying to say something. In fact, the latter is probably a lot less common.

well, Ikazuchi and Inazuma basicaly told her to her faced how useless she was, ans then Atago messily murdered the twins in front of her, all the while she was subtly brainwashing the poor girl into emotionally relying on her. And then Atagao broke the commander by using the key word that triggered her implanted emtional break down. "Useless."

i'm really surprised to the fact that the commander does not have a aide-de-campe (which is like a secretary but is more like a personal assistant than a perdson who just sort files out etc. etc.)

Minor detail, but I love how Kaga does not even bother trying to reason with Atago here. they avoided the drawn out ideals debate so many scenes like this have and just say "fuck it, your not going to listen, so I will beat the stupid out of you and get what I need."

    "Return"?
    Return the Admiral to us.
Strength alone determines who is righteous and just.
    How utterly ridiculous.
You're the ones who stole her away in the first place.
I don't care what you think.
There's no bigger waste of time than an argument.
    Come.
