And I especially advise to try looking for all the platform number in advance so you won't be in panic when you have your number but you have no idea where it is.

They do this in some British stations as well [ can't say if all since I don't use privatised services ], but privatised or not, it is just the overwhelming need for self-assertion, the need to change working systems to something flatter and stupider, by marketeers and technocrats.

Well to be fair, our rail system was laid down in the Victorian era and some places up north aren't even electrified because we are outside the M25 border and thus do not exist to central government.
