damn, I don't get the reference, mind enlighten me there?
Occupation while means job, work you are working at to make money/make an income to support your livelihood, it also means "invasion by military force to take over a foreign land not in the boundary of your country's border and keeping that military force to make the land you are holding serve one or several of your needs". Or just to put it simple: "hold a land, bit of something to sit on and profit from it one way or another".
Basically, WW2, German had its occupation spread through almost all of Europe. Now, the joke is about a German overly sensitive of the word "occupation" since she's not invading using military force.

Sorry to point out the joke.
Actually, you missed the joke too. It's the Italians who are sensitive to the word "occupation" because the Germans did occupy Italy for a portion of WW2. So it's the Italians asking "are you here to occupy us?" and Bismark responding "No, just visiting." (I mean that Bismark is assuming the Italians are afraid she's invading)

He got it right. "Occupation?" ("what's your job/study?") is a standard burocratic form. However I think he missed the fact that Bismarck was being serious. To come to occupy lands was not the present case but a possibility anyway.

Actually, no. I noticed that it's applicable as Germany did occupy Italy for a time during WW2. I do study the time period after all. But yes, I didn't think of "Occupation" as "Are you here to occupy our land". Since there wasn't a mention of Italian in the first comment.

I did notice answering "No, just visit" means "we can be taking your land" too. But yes, I really thought of that as a possible out come so I didn't find it funny to be a joke.
I'm sure Ark is ready to play whenever you are Bismark. Assuming she isn't tied up back at the naval base to keep her from stalking you all the way back to Germany.

You completely forgot to mention Mallorca (part of Spain). The classical low budget vacation for German youngsters is to have sun, sex and ridiculous large amounts of sangria on the "Ballermann" in Palma de Mallorca. The north of the island is occupied by the Brits with same intentions. The coast of Turkey was also highly frequented by German tourists, but with the political winter between Ankara and Berlin this subsided and Croatia became popular.
It's been too long since we've been able to just take it easy! The German ships, on break in their homeland. The Italian ships, on break in their homeland.Well, I'm bored.Should we go somewhere? And those noisy, nagging German ships aren't here either!"Somewhere"?Sure does feel like a vacation, doesn't it~Isn't that obvious?OFF WE GO!An imitation of "行くぜ、東北。" campaign logo. Here we are!!KYAAAAAAA!
