Reminded me of a russian fairy tale. "The Fox and The Wolf".
In winter Fox stealed fish and when Wolf asked her how she got that she tricked him saying she caught it with her tail. Wolf went to fish in a ice-hole and his tail was freezed.

Interesting
The Finnish version of that fairy tale tells about a fox and bear instead. Explains why bears have such short tails.
