Light Cruiser: Ooyodo
Born in Kure.
In Kantai Collection, she is a familiar ship girl even on the mission screen, featuring a sleek, slender body, a huge hangar, and a catapult.
The way she quietly handles her duties to support Admirals right from the early days brings us all sorts of endearing moe along with a deep sense of affection.
Although designed with an emphasis on operational command and as a submarine squadron flagship, she never had the chance to fully demonstrate that capability. Furthermore, the deployment of new seaplanes faced many twists and turns and ultimately was never equipped.
Even so, she fought valiantly until just days before the end of the war. This isn't how it was supposed to go...Kantai Collection Illustration Column: Encyclopedia of Sunken KanMusuNo. 069

Because the development of the new Shiun reconnaissance seaplane did not pan out as planned, Ooyodo's hangar capacity was left without a practical purpose. However, accounting for her spacious hangar and the advanced communication equipment designed for her role as a submarine squadron flagship, she was entrusted with becoming the flagship of the Combined Fleet.
She was relieved of her duties following Operation A-gō (the Battle of the Philippine Sea). Afterward, the fleet command headquarters was moved ashore, and she was never selected as a flagship again.
During Operation Rei-gō (the Battle of Mindoro), the command also chose to use the destroyer Kasumi as the flagship rather than cruisers like Ashigara or Ooyodo.Flagship? Her pride: the 44.5m catapult
Endlessly waiting to launch the Shiun...Through Fierce Battles, Back to Her Birthplace
Following the success of Operation Kita, Ooyodo received her final assignment as a training ship in Kure.
In subsequent air raids, she suffered heavy damage, losing the majority of her boilers.
This served as the catalyst for her to be heavily damaged and settling on the seabed. Though she never actually sank, the journey of Ooyodo—the final Combined Fleet flagship that survived desperate naval battles such as the Battle of Leyte Gulf and Operation Rei—drew to a close right here.Type 2 High-Speed Reconnaissance Seaplane: ShiunInherited from the Mogami class
