Shizuma Hanazono X Nagisa Aoi
Well, after a long absence for personal reasons, I've finally returned with a new drawing, and in this case, it's a very special one, as it's a drawing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of my favorite anime (and my favorite Yuri anime overall), Strawberry Panic!
I know I'm a bit late considering the anime premiered in April 2006, but (aside from being busy working on the anniversary drawing for Black Lagoon), I think it's never too late to pay homage to one of my favorite love stories, the one that made me completely fall in love with the Yuri genre.
Frankly, the plot between Nagisa and Shizuma, and how a pure and sincere love develops between them despite everything they've been through, seems to me to be one of the best-written lesbian relationships in anime. This is all thanks to the great development of our protagonists, especially Shizuma, who goes from being someone who feigns stoicism and hides her depression behind a womanizing mask to try and fill the void left in her heart by Kaori's loss, to someone who deeply and sincerely loves Nagisa and is willing to change for the better for her. I think the moment when she finally overcomes the trauma of Kaori's death and goes to find Nagisa to finally open her heart to her is the most pivotal. And telling her that he loves her in the most sincere and authentic way possible is one of the most beautiful and sentimental moments and declarations of love I've ever seen in anime. Seeing them finally able to be together and kiss so passionately in the field of flowers after so much drama and emotional pain they went through feels truly satisfying. That's why it's one of my favorite moments in anime in general, and one of the reasons why Strawberry Panic is so important and special to me. When I found out that this year was the 20th anniversary of the series, I couldn't just sit idly by, so I decided to make a drawing based on the anime's ending itself, or rather, what happened in that field of flowers after Shizuma and Nagisa ran away together and collapsed there to consummate their love. That's what I wanted to represent: an intimate, sensual, and erotic scene, but without losing its passionate, sentimental, and romantic tone. And I think I achieved the perfect balance. A perfect blend of both ideas, I hope you like the result <3 ^^
