You know, I was wondering why trans people are against this trend? After all, they constantly make characters gay and write fanfiction about them, and they also love to change races. And I think I understand, because a Draco woman is literally a conservative's dream. A rich housewife, conservative, and a bit racist. If Dumbledore is in a relationship with Snape, they need a rainbow flag, right? But a Malfoy woman? As a character, she would definitely be against the LGBT movement...

Trans people aren't fond of it because it might get people not in the know interested in Harry Potter, which is a bad thing because by buying the books, renting the movies and whatever else those people are financially supporting a cunt who actively demonizes them and tries to criminalize their existence, not because of your delusions.
That aside, statistically speaking most of them aren't affected by it, because the UK doesn't contain the majority of the world's population, but it's a matter of principle.
Personally I'm not too bothered by it because it's just another fad that will pass and there are far worse things for people to be into.
Not to mention that there's literally no reason for us to hate all the resulting straight shipping between fem Draco and Harry. Straight trans people aren't exactly uncommon after all. Especially if it is something as inoffensive as this.
You're just trying to stir up shit for no good reason.

What the hell kind of logic is that, and what is even going on with this sentence? Is the implication supposed to be that the UK is bad because Rowling lives there? Do you think there IS a country that contains the majority of the world's population?

Trans people by themselves are uncommon, and the idea of "straight" ones sound like a paradox.

I suggest you don't start throwing stones. The house of trans is looking awfully glassy, and the mods here don't like us really getting into these discussions.

So the problem isn't the character but the popularization of Harry Potter? What's the point? Why connect Rowling to a fictional world? There are plenty of writers and poets whose works I enjoy, but with whom I certainly wouldn't find common ground, like Tolstoy. And there are some people I like, but not their work...

Most trans people aren't directly affected by it, which is basic logic considering the distribution of the world's population, since only the ones in the UK suffer directly from it.

That's on you for apparently lacking basic understanding of how sexuality works. And I obviously meant among trans people, not in regards to humanity as a whole.

Because unlike Lovecraft for example, she is still alive and causing damage. Spending money on anything belonging to that IP means funding her misdeeds, at least in part. If you're pirating it there's nothing wrong with it.
The moment she bites the dust nobody will give a shit anymore.

Okay, how exactly do they "suffer" directly from living in the same country as the big bad terf? I doubt they have to so much as say good morning to her on an everyday basis.

I mean, I was trying just a bit to accommodate the poor mods after everything I've put them through before (though I will insist it takes two to tango), but here we go: Promoting trans stuff to children in schools, having people fined and put in prison for not agreeing with trans people is obviously, objectively far more provocative than anything YaroslavGh and I have said on this site.

Do you ever think before you subject others to your inane bullshit? She is funding anti-trans groups with the goal of undoing any progress towards improving trans rights, a noteworthy case being in 2024 with For Women Scotland who managed to get the recognition of trans women as women by law revoked.
The worst part is that any ant-trans laws are actively harming cis women as well because people can use legalized transphobia as a defense for harassment. And of course it puts children at an even greater risk, regardless of gender identity, as seen with the Texas Women's Privacy Act.

And there is no such thing as "promoting" trans stuff to children. It's eduction with the explicit goal of avoiding psychological damage common in trans people by letting them actually know that they aren't a unique case who needs to pretend to be something they're not.
And I can't state this enough but apparently I need to: gender identity isn't a choice, you're born with it, and no amount of brainwashing by transphobes will change a child's gender identity, neither will any amount of gender education turn a cis child trans.

If trans people are allowed to hold beliefs contrary to other people's, others should be allowed their own beliefs contrary to those of trans people. This revocation is an improvement of everyone else's right to disagree (as opposed to being arrested, prosecuted and punished). To think you have a right to not be disagreed with is incredibly self-entitled, and anyone who wants people punished for disagreeing with them is a bully. And as far as suffering goes I just don't think it's that bad.

Which ones? A revocation is not a law. Is it?

Potahto. I could talk about a teacher pushing the exact opposite ideas with the the exact same phrasing, and I know if a teacher did that you'd want that to stop too. The "transphobic" position is simply that both sides leave the children alone, but I don't expect you're willing to treat others as you wish to be treated.

And yet we have plenty of examples of de-transition, of people who grew up to deeply regret having been convinced they were trans as children, and having had trans therapy and surgery. This didn't use to be a problem, so clearly, people can be made to get their gender identity wrong.

Not teaching about gender-identity is the opposite
approach to teaching about it. How do want to stop "not teaching about something" if a teacher did that?
And no, you don't get to pretend its just about leaving children alone. If it was, then there wouldn't be so much effort and lobbying by people like Rowling to make the life of Trans-people harder who already made their choice and are fine with it.

It didn't feel like a problem because there was less data available and it wasn't talked much about in the public discourse. Doesn't mean people are more likely to regret the therapy these days.

Not teaching about gender-identity is the opposite approach to teaching about it.

Do you REALLY want to argue the semantics of whether 0 or -1 is the "real" opposite of 1? It just seems like getting off topic, and the actual argument of equally not propagandizing to children is being ignored.

Please, read your own reply before posting it, it is unclear what you mean by this.

That's very vague and doesn't tell me much about the hardship Rowling allegedly inflicts on any children, but my strong impression is that if the children were just left alone they wouldn't become trans in the first place. Because that's how it used to be.

    Saiko said in comment #2636495:

Oh yeah, the old "there was plenty of gender dysphoria in the middle ages, we just don't have documentation". Great argument, except ACCHTUALLY there was NO gender dysphoria at all!
    My source? Same as yours!
Seriously, it's just speculation. An absence of evidence is not evidence of lots of people wanting gender reassignment.
