Figuratively speaking, these are the kinds of hopes and feelings of joy sparked by news of raids and inspections targeting migrants!
There is a glimmer of hope that one of the country’s serious and dangerous problems will be resolved.
Crime among foreign migrants has already reached such a level that high-ranking law enforcement officials are speaking out about it—Kolokoltsev and Bastrykin. Even the Russian Orthodox Church, which is usually more concerned with its own self-serving goals—and whose religion isn’t opposed to multiculturalism—has weighed in. Even Patriarch Kirill has acknowledged that they pose a threat.
In 2022, law enforcement agencies investigated more than 36,000 crimes committed by migrant workers, which is 10% more than in 2021. This is the highest figure in the last five years. A significant portion of these were serious and particularly serious crimes, including murder and rape. It should be noted that, as always, these cases were excluded from the statistics.
