It was a gameplay thing, she was STRAIGHT UP TRASH. So everyone hated losing their 50/50 to her. Even the A-ranks were better than her. You never wanted to see her in your 50/50 loses.

Waiting 3 years is however wild waiting for an upgrade that most gacha games never do (that's 3 years worth of jokes on how bad she is and 3 years worth of losing 50/50 salt), so good on the devs. The common thing would be to never improve the base Nekomata and just release an improved alt. Also you wouldn't get Shungaung numbers on an 0 dupe no engine Nekomata ofcourse, so you would need some investment. While Shungaung works right out the gate.
