"On May 2, 2014, during violent street clashes in Odessa, Ukraine, between pro-Maidan activists and anti-Maidan protesters amid the unrest following Euromaidan, a deadly fire broke out in the city’s Trade Unions House. After pro-Ukrainian groups overran and set fire to a pro-Russian tent camp outside the building, dozens of anti-Maidan activists took refuge inside; Molotov cocktails were thrown at the building, the structure caught fire, and around 42 people died—mostly from smoke inhalation or jumping from windows—bringing the day’s total death toll to about 48. Far-right Ukrainian groups such as Right Sector and Misanthropic Division were present among the pro-Maidan forces."
