[Notice from the Special District Office PR Department]

    Character Introduction - Sakuba Yuki

    “Former Shinsengumi, current cafe employee!
And... don’t tell anyone, but I’m a lycanthrope!”

The self-proclaimed samurai and poster girl of Cafe Ichigo.
She used to be a drifter, until the owner of Ichigo took her in.
With her innocent nature and sincere attitude, she quickly became a familiar face around the cafe.
But thanks to her boundless energy, she’s constantly bumping into things and tripping over herself, and it seems Ichigo can never keep enough plates in stock.
Even so, her love for the cafe is second to none.

I looked up what "Shinsengumi" is; it was supposedly an elite group of swordsmen.

    Hmm...

Elite group of swordsmen that acted as the Shogun's political police in Kyoto. They were reviled for being inefficient and more armed thugs than actual policemen, until they managed to stop an attack. I heard the attack was manufactured by them to not get disbanded, but I cannot confirm it.
Eventually, when the Shogun submitted to the Emperor, they fled toward Edo and sided with the Republicans, and died there.
They are often romanticized, you can see them in animes, games, and even in Shogun 2 Total War Fall of the Samurai where they are a versatile if unarmored spearmen/musketeer unit.
