@karsama This is a repost/aggregation/curation site. 99+% of all art posted here is uploaded by someone other than the artist. If you want to talk directly to the artist, follow the source link (or check the artist's online info by clicking the "?" next to their name) in the tag list, and speak directly to them that way. Please note that unless you see the artist post in English, there's no guarantee they understand the language.

If I recall correctly I think it's even discouraged for the artist to post on here? I could be wrong, and please correct me if I am.

This used to be the case a LOOONGGG time ago. Well over a decade, perhaps even more. These days there is absolutely nothing wrong with artists visiting here, leaving comments, posting their own art with self-upload, or engaging in the community in any other way. The faster we can kill this stubborn and archaic way of thinking the better.

Explaining why that used to be the case whenever someone brings it up would certainly help. Said reason being artists getting upset when their art goes unapproved or manually deleted. We still get people whining about their self-uploaded art being deleted who don't understand that danbooru has quality standards, who are a prime example of why it used to be discouraged in the first place. Not that I'm in favor of going back to how it used to be. Any decent artist can reasonably be expected to have the maturity to handle one of their pieces being deleted.

If I remember correctly, another reason was that artists would naturally be biased towards their own work. Having another user upload it was supposed to show the artist isn't the only one that thinks their work is high-quality. But I think that's a weak argument since any uploader can have that same bias towards an artist or copyright they really like.
