actually, except Evolution and Revolution, they're mostly based on the light novel. And they were all released prior to the anime counterpart, including the movie ones.

If I also remember correctly, the so-said Series 2 of the Light Novel is still going on...

Elements of the novels not used in the first or second seasons, like Duclis and Zuuma, were used in Rev and Ev-R, albeit altered. And while TRY was fully original material, Hajime Kanzaka was a part of the story process, so it's all canon, of a sort.

That said, I think I'd have to say NEXT was my favorite season, though I've liked all of it that I've seen. Wish I'd gotten into it before a friend of mine lost her translations of the novels when an old comp died.
