Nobody uses commissioner_upload correctly

Somehow, we've gotten to the point where "commissioner upload" is somehow an unclear and confusing name, and people still refuse to read wikis, so "commissioner upload" isn't being reasoned to "uploaded by commissioner" and now we're trying to invent another stupid fucking Danbooruism that people will yet again find another spectacular way to use wrong under a name that no rational, sane human being would use to say "yes this was uploaded by the person who commissioned it".

I don't particularly jive well with changing the tag's name, and deprecating it sounds like an especially wrong idea. I'm more on the party of "it should be gardened, and regular misusers of it should be smacked". I'm not a fan of changing tag names when the average person doesn't understand its use unless the name itself actually inherently contributes to the misuse because of its potential multiple meanings, like the recently-changed affectionate.

I definitely believe the current name causes misunderstandings. If you type in commission, you see commissioner upload in the autocomplete. If you don't know about the second-party source tag, it's a trivial misunderstanding, especially if a person is looking for a tag when they find something uploaded by a commissioner instead of the artist. Path of least resistance and all that.

My first thought when seeing the words "commissioner upload" is "the commissioner uploaded it", not "the commissioner uploaded it to Danbooru specifically themself". Uploads happen outside of Danbooru. Most people encounter that upload first and Danbooru is second, except in the prime case where the Commissioner receives it and uploads it directly to Danbooru. I would argue it's a Danbooruism that it's being used for the latter in the first place. The tag as it stands requires Danbooru-specific context which is not immediately apparent from name alone. Ideally, the tag should just be clear enough that its use is understood through name alone and there are no regular misusers in the first place and required gardening is minimized. Rather I don't think this is the sort of error caused by "regular" misusers. It's one that would occur when people are new and end up uploading a commission for the first time.

I agree with mkjioz, the only way to not know that commissioner upload isn't for images uploaded by the commissioner is if you're already familiar with the second-party source tag. Tag names should be relatively obvious to the average person (keeping in mind that we can not babyproof everything) because tags are for the average person and not just superusers and as an average person myself, I very well know that average people are kinda stupid and do not read wikis.

Yeah I agree, this just seems like a weird symptom. I wasn't even aware people were misunderstanding this since it seemed so obvious, and whenever I did see it it was being used correctly. I just say we hit people misusing it with stick until they correct themselves.

Expecting people to read wikis is sadly too much to ask for a good chunk of users. Changing it to commissioner self-upload is going to save many headaches in the long run.

In the past I've also mistaken commissioner upload's name to mean that the source of the image was from a commissioner reposting what they ordered from the artist before I checked the wiki to be sure.

You don't normally expect tags to refer to the user themselves.

commissioner_self-upload seems like a fair rename if it's confusing, but it's fair to assume that you have a clue what you're doing if you're tagging stuff. Also this is not a tag regular users will search for, it's for contributors to identify potential conflicts of interest.
